On a warm and sunny Saturday evening in July, Italy came to the parish in the form of delicious Italian food and wine. An enthusiastic crowd gathered in the Parish Hall and enjoyed a glass of Prosecco before listening to Christopher Carson of Gruppo Italiano Vini as he introduced a fine selection of wonderful Italian wines of differing styles from various regions . His informative talk had the participants all discussing the colour, clarity and bouquet of the wines like experts, as we sampled Prosecco, Soave, Orvieto and Valpolicella to name just a few. Another feature of the night was the fabulous Italian food from Shambles, which was enjoyed by all. The table groups then competed in a quiz which tested our local, general and sporting knowledge, as well as testing how well we had paid attention to the wine discussion. With some wonderful raffle prizes to be won and the very generous donation of the food and wine, the evening was a great success not only as a fundraising event but also as an opportunity for fellowship and fun. Many thanks must go to Mr Carson and his team for their time, effort and generosity in preparing the tasting notes, donating the wine and compeering the evening, and also to Laura Garnham for organising such a successful and enjoyable evening, which raised £1,750, a great result.
