All Guides are members of Girlguiding UK, the largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women in this country, with about 600,000 members. Who can be a Guide? Any girl aged 10 or over can be a Guide. The oldest Guides are usually about 14 years old. Membership of Girlguiding UK is voluntary and is open to any girl or woman, regardless of faith, race, culture, nationality or any other circumstance, provided she is able to understand and willing to make the Promise. Guides make this simple Promise that they share with members around the world. I promise that I will do my best: Guide LawThe Laws are: A Guide is honest, reliable and can be trusted. A Guide is helpful and uses her time and abilities wisely. A Guide faces challenge and learns from her experiences. A Guide is a good friend and a sister to all Guides. A Guide is polite and considerate. A Guide respects all living things and takes care of the world around her. How often do we meet? The 2nd A Teddington Guides meet once a week during school terms on a Friday evening in the parish hall from 7.30pm to 9pm There are plenty of opportunities for Guides to take part in special activities and events throughout the year. For example, over the last 12 months, we have been shooting, held a fundraising disco, practiced our map skills in Bushy Park, helped serve teas in the churchyard for Teddington in Bloom and also supported Welcare by providing a bran tub for their stall at Twickenham Green Fair, as well as attending Church Parades, running a stall at the church Bazaar and putting on a Christmas panto. Guide Camp in July, was a great success with the Guides enjoying climbing, abseiling, football, volleyball, tug of war and rounders, finishing off with a camp fire on the Saturday night. When Guides meet? 7.30pm - 9pm Friday evenings at the Parish Hall For more information about the 2nd A Teddington Guides please email guides@stmarywithstalban.org |
