Job Description for Parish Administrator

 

The Church of St Mary with St Alban in Teddington requires a part time Parish Administrator to work closely with the Vicar and a wide range of volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the Parish Office.

The role covers all the administration of the Parish Hall and the Church. The congregation is growing and has a vibrant community. The administrator will be required to take over a well run office but also to help grow and broaden the role to provide support to the many volunteers and to become a focus for the Parish.

The Administrator will work closely with the Vicar but also has to have the ability to work unsupervised and on their own initiative.

• Hours: Mon-Tues-Thurs-Fri 9am-12 noon (12 hours per week)

• Salary up to £6,000 per annum, paid monthly

• Employed by the PCC with direct line management from the Vicar.

Key tasks

• Manage the Parish Office as a hub for all parish administration and answer all general enquiries

• Manage all enquiries, bookings and income with regard to the Parish Hall

• Supervise hall cleaner and caretaker

• Process invoices for church & hall, raise cheques to be signed and keep financial records under the direction of Parish Accountant and Treasurer

• Order supplies and liaise with maintenance contractors.

• Bank cash income from church and hall

• Produce weekly pewsheet and occasional service booklets

• Maintain and develop church database and contact systems

• Work with and enable volunteers to assist in parish administration and communications

• Assist Vicar as directed

• Provide regular reports to the PCC

Key skills

• Good interpersonal skills

• Ability to liaise well with colleagues and the general public

• Ability to communicate sensitively with hall users, parishioners and church volunteers

• Efficient office and organisational skills

• Expertise in Microsoft Office and Outlook

• Knowledge of bookkeeping software (preferably Quickbooks) and processes desirable

• To be able to use initiative

• Church background an advantage
